Monsanto’s Roundup is Causing DNA Damage

There is a reason that masks are worn while applying herbicides, and warning signs are erected upon recently sprayed land plots; herbicide exposure is known to cause serious health complications.
New research has recently been released showing that glyphosate, the main active ingredient found in Monsanto’s Roundup Ultra Max, is causing both DNA and cellular damage to cells found in the mouth and throat.
Seeing as the inhalation of herbicides and ingredients like glyphosate is very common, this research alone is enough to raise concern over the safety of such substances which are used on a major scale.
The Institute of Science in Society reports:
…Monsanto’s formulated version of glyphosate called Roundup Ultra Max caused cellular damage and DNA damage including chromosomal abnormalities and ultimately killed the cells at higher concentrations. Importantly, DNA damage occurred at concentrations below those required to induce cell damage, suggesting that the DNA damage was caused directly by glyphosate instead of being an indirect result of cell toxicity.
The research comes shortly after Monsanto’s all-too-popular Roundup has been shown to be killing off human kidney cells – even at low doses. Scientists demonstrated in the research that Monsanto’s ‘biopesticide’ Bt, in addition to Roundup, cause direct toxicity to human cells. They found that at only 100 parts per million (ppm), the biopesticide led to cell death, while it only took 57.2ppm of Roundup to kill half of the cell population in their research. Turns out that the amount of Roundup shown to cause this damage is 200 times below agricultural use.
Although harm caused by glyphosate and Roundup is thought to be experienced only by those spraying the herbicide, Roundup may actually causing harm to millions of people. Roundup is not only sprayed on the food we eat, but it is also used by countless households as a consumer herbicide product. Roundup is so prevalent that it has been found in 41 percent of the 140 groundwater samples tested from Catalonia, Spain. Even more concerning, a recent German study found glyphosate in all urine samples tested in concentrations at 5 to 20-fold the limit established for drinking water.
Despite the evidence stacking up against Monsanto, they continue to push their health-damaging products on the public through personal and commercial use.

GM Food: Killer Soybeans, Pigs and Corn, and…
In a way, this is one of the most important SCANDAL articles we’ve presented, since genetically modified foods (GM) have the ability to affect the health of every person on Earth. Pretty big statement, but after you familiarize yourself with what has been happening to our food supply worldwide over the past 20 to 25 years, you may agree that that statement is not an exaggeration.
In short, one company embarked on a campaign to not only change the very composition and structure of our food, but also is dominating the production of food, worldwide. That company is Monsanto, which for many years existed only as a chemical company. It now controls a great part of food production throughout the world, and is actively patenting GM seeds and even GM animal breeding, despite a mountain of scientific evidence that the products they are creating and selling are dangerous for human beings to use.
It is very likely that you ate a GM food today, and don’t know it. This Scandal article is a must read. It may save your life or keep you out of a doctor’s office. Some of the material is long. UK Government and EC accused of criminal negligence and willful
suppression of facts
Three new studies of the health effects of GM foods have triggered
fresh demands for GM components in human food and animal feed to be
banned immediately, and have also led to accusations of criminal
negligence aimed at the UK Government and European Commission.
The first of the studies, conducted by Russian scientist Irina
Ermakova, showed that an astounding 55% of the offspring of rats fed on
GM soya died within three weeks of birth, compared with only 9% in the
control group (1). The second, conducted by Manuela Malatesta and
colleagues in the Universities of Pavia and Urbino in Italy, showed
that mice fed on GM soya experienced a slowdown in cellular metabolism
and modifications to liver and pancreas (2). And the third study,
conducted by CSIRO in Australia, showed that the introduction of genes from a bean variety into a GM pea led to the creation of a novel
protein which caused inflammation of the lung tissue of mice (3). So
serious was the damage that the research was halted, and stocks of the
GM pea have been destroyed. The developers have now made a commitment
that the “rogue” variety will never be marketed.

Revealed: health fears over secret study into GM food
Rats fed GM corn due for sale in Britain developed abnormalities in blood and kidneys

Rats fed on a diet rich in genetically modified corn developed abnormalities to
internal organs and changes to their blood, raising fears that human health could
be affected by eating GM food.
The Independent on Sunday can today reveal details of secret research carried out
by Monsanto, the GM food giant, which shows that rats fed the modified corn had
smaller kidneys and variations in the composition of their blood.
According to the confidential 1,139-page report, these health problems were absent
from another batch of rodents fed non-GM food as part of the research project.
The disclosures come as European countries, including Britain, prepare to vote on
whether the GM-modified corn should go on sale to the public. A vote last week by
the European Union failed to secure agreement over whether the product should be
sold here, after Britain and nine other countries voted in favour.
However, the disclosure of the health effects on the Monsanto rats has intensified
the row over whether the corn is safe to eat without further research. Doctors
said the changes in the blood of the rodents could indicate that the rat’s immune
system had been damaged or that a disorder such as a tumour had grown and the
system was mobilising to fight it.

This is a great summary of the GM situation. Lots of facts. No hysteria.
So, ladies and gentlemen, by now you should have seen the ugly shape of the entire subject of GM foods, and it ain’t pretty. It is a blatant example of corporate profits taking precedence over the health and well being of billions of people. Monsanto will not even reveal results of their own testing, and they are not being compelled to do so.
What can you or I do about it? Very little. At best, you are now educated enough to make good choices when you buy food. Buy non GM foods, which supports the efforts of those growers and keeps them alive and working, as an option to buying the FrankenFoods Monsanto is forcing the world to eat.
