VOTING FOR A HAM SANDWICH
Not too long ago The DC Post published an article titled, “Voting for a Ham Sandwich.” Its premise is that all the polls being conducted about which presidential candidate someone will vote for add up to nothing meaningful. This election is only about one thing, and that one thing is will voters vote for Barack Obama or not?
This is the question pollsters should be asking because it is the question voters are asking themselves. Another more colorful way to put it is, “If you had to choose between voting for Barack Obama or a ham sandwich, which would get your vote?” The moment of truth will only come when Americans are in the voting booth with their fingers poised to pull the lever for Romney or Obama. That’s when the “ham sandwich” factor clicks in. The DC Post advises the Romney camp to run on the slogan, “I’m not Barack Obama.”
