A 30-year-old nonprofit located in the District, Suited for Change, assists women who are seeking professional careers and financial independence. They accept clothing donations that have been freshly dry-cleaned. Items you are planning to donate should be ones that you would feel confident wearing to a job interview. In addition to professional attire, they provide free coaching and job-readiness education to women, including those experiencing homelessness, survivors of domestic violence, and teen mothers.

St Alban’s Church Opportunity Shop

Offering quality goods at affordable prices since 1955, St Alban’s Church Opportunity Shop is a thrift store where you can donate a wide range of items such as clothing and shoes for women, men and children; bedding, curtains, drapes & linens; household pieces and home decor; books; toys; and jewelry. You can make your donations at their front desk and also request a donation form if you need it for tax purposes. The shop also raises more than  $300,000 every year for charitable donations.

Another top charity with a DC location, Goodwill, is a great place to donate your gently used goods, including clothing, furniture, housewares, and electronics. Donated items are resold at Goodwill’s own thrift stores to help fund the non-profit’s operations such as providing employment and free job training for people with disadvantages or disabilities. Donations of computers, printers, monitors, scanners, keyboards, and other computer-related items are also accepted. Receipts are available so that you can claim a tax deduction at the end of the year.

Patrons shop at no cost via a monthly credit program. The non-profit also operates nationally accredited education programs, connects healthy food access with physical and mental health services, and invests in family leaders.
