The nonprofit school that focuses on dramatic arts training has been providing various programs, including award-winning summer camps for kids and teens, since 1992. Founders Deb Gottesman and Buzz Mauro are professional actors who have been granted the Linowes Leadership Award for their educational services to underserved communities. They have also taught at universities as guest lecturers.

At Steve & Kate’s Camp, kids are in charge of their own experience and get to design their days at the camp in real-time by selecting which activities they would like to participate in from a number of options. Activities include “media lab” where campers learn building games on coding apps and creating stop-motion animations; “performing arts” with dancing and karaoke; sewing salon; bakery; soccer; gaga; capture the flag; and more.

Capitol Hill Arts Workshop (CHAW) offers arts classes and camps for children and youth to improve their creativity and help them build great skills. Students in grades K-12 can attend visual arts, dance, music, theater, ceramics and photography classes. CHAW provides tuition assistance for children who can’t afford the programs. Students also engage with peers outside of class through “village time” activities like games, homework help, and drop-in art projects.

Focusing their programs on teaching in a natural way through fun and exploration, KidOvation Stage specializes in camp experiences for kids from three to eight. Founded in 2013, DC Way is a Capitol Hill soccer club that is dedicated to teaching sportsmanship, technical skills, and how to be a team player to children ages five to 14, while allowing them to have fun, meet new friends, and gain self-confidence. DC Way’s team of certified soccer coaches, who are experienced in working with children, are led by Coach Denis C, voted in the Washington City Paper as the best sports coach multiple times.
