DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) announced that they recovered the body of a male in the Anacostia River at the mouth of the Potomac River on Sunday.

Passers-by reported the sight of a body in the river to police at approximately 3 pm. The Metropolitan Police Department’s (MPD) Harbor Division responded to the scene.

The body was found near Joint Base Anacostia, according to officials.

MPD worked together with DC Fire and EMS in the search and rescue efforts. The Department has launched an investigation into the death of the man.

In summer of 2020, DC Fire and MPD recovered several bodies from the Anacostia and Potomac rivers. Official warn against the dangers of swimming or boating in both rivers.
