Tony Award-winning Idina Menzel to Perform at Kennedy Center Gala on April 3

Tony Award–winning icon Idina Menzel is scheduled to perform in a specially curated concert to celebrate the recipients of the 2019 Kennedy Center Award for the Human Spirit at the Kennedy Center on April 3.

“The Kennedy Center Award for the Human Spirit recognizes recipients who have had an enduring impact on the advancement of arts, contributing to a culture of giving through philanthropy and through service,” says the event brief.

A popular vocalist and songwriter, Menzel is best known for her Broadway blockbusters like Wicked and Rent, and also for her voice as “Elsa” in the Oscar-winning Disney 3-D animation Frozen, the highest-grossing animated film of all time. The film’s hit song Let It Go also won her the “Oscar for Best Original Song” and the “Grammy Award for Best Song Written for Visual Media”.

She will be performing some fan favorites, as well as her original songs at the event.

Menzel’s recording career includes multiple cast albums and solo albums like Still I Can’t Be Still, Here, I Stand. Her latest album, idina., was released in September 2016 on Warner Bros Records and idina: live came out in October 2018.

Menzel received critical acclaim and stardom on Broadway with Her Tony Award–winning performance as Elphaba, the misunderstood green girl in the blockbuster Wicked. In Pulitzer Prize-winning Rent, she performed her role as Maureen which also earned her a Tony Award. She was recently seen on Broadway in the original production If/Then, for which she won her third Tony nomination.

Patrick G. and Shirley W. Ryan of Chicago will be granted this year’s Distinguished Philanthropist Award at the gala event. The award recognizes their “long and transformational contributions to Chicago’s cultural institutions.”

Artist, producer and social activist Forest Whitaker will be conferred with the Citizen Artist Award at the event for his work on peace-building initiatives in the U.S., Africa, and Latin America.

Tickets are priced $99.00 – $299.00. Party passes start at $350, and provide exclusive access to both the performance and an after-party with cocktails, dessert, and special performances.
