MPD Arrests Machete Wielding 13-Year-Old Who Allegedly Hurled Anti-LGBTQ Slurs

-

DC police have arrested a 13-year-old boy after he allegedly threatened to stab a man with a machete during the Pride Parade in the District.

The teen, whose identity has not been released, reportedly hurled anti-gay slurs and told the man he would “silence” him.

The incident took place at around 3 pm on Saturday, June 12, in the 500 block of Florida Avenue, Northwest.

The suspect first approached the victim and harassed him with derogatory comments while the latter was walking to Shaw’s Tavern, on Florida Avenue, Northwest. He left the scene and returned with a machete as the victim was dining outside, and threatened to stab him.

The victim told the police that the boy then started stabbing cicadas and flicking them at him while he ate. He allegedly said “I’ll silence you” at that moment.

He was arrested on Sunday, and charged with “assault with a dangerous weapon.”

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) is investigating the incident as a possible hate crime.
