DC Police Arrest Suspect in Fatal Shooting of 11-Year-Old Davon McNeal

-

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) have arrested an 18-year-old man Thursday in connection with the Fourth of July murder of 11-year-old Davon McNeal.

The suspect identified as Daryle Bond of Southeast DC has been charged with first degree murder while armed, according to DC Mayor Muriel Bowser and Police Chief Peter Newsham, who made the announcement at a press conference last night.

Bond reportedly has a gun-related criminal history. Police are still looking for three other suspects.

Davon was shot in the head on the 1400 block of Cedar St. Southeast DC on July 4, during a community cookout organized by his mother Crystal McNeal, who has been working as a mediator for the District to prevent violence between gangs.

The boy had left the cookout to pick up a phone charger at a family member’s house nearby, and had just gotten out of his mother’s car, when a group of men opened fire. They fled the scene in a dark-color sedan.

He was taken to the Children’s National Hospital. However, he succumbed to his injuries.

Others wanted in the homicide case are Carlo General, 19, of Southeast; Marcel Gordon, 25, of Southeast and Christian Wingfield, 22, of Hillcrest Heights, MD. They are also accused of first-degree murder.

“They had a history of picking up firearms and using them in our community,” Newsham said regarding the men. “Now, these guys have taken the life of an 11-year-old boy and that is tragic.”

According to Newsham, they were not shooting at the 11-year-old kid, and their target was something else.

Anyone who has information about the deadly shooting is encouraged to get in touch with police at 202-727-9099 or text anonymously the Department’s tip line at 50411.

MPD recently put up a reward of up to $25,000 for a piece of information that would lead to an arrest in the case.
