DC Hosts 4th Chinese Film Festival

-

The 4th biennial DC Chinese Film Festival (DDCFF) is taking place in Washington, D.C. on September 27-30.

This year, the participants and audiences will experience richer, diverse films put together by the festival committee. The theme of this year’s festival is “Folding World,” which focuses on the stories of underrepresented communities and Chinese diasporas around the world.

About 37 outstanding features and shorts from nine countries and regions – including China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, the U.S. and more – will be showcased at the festival.

DCCFF is a nonprofit organization dedicated to discovering “outstanding Chinese cinema around the world and to encouraging cultural diversity through films.”

“We have selected 37 feature and short films out of the total 562 entries submitted to this year’s competition. Many of the films are from first time filmmakers who demonstrated great potential and stunning creativity,” said Geoffrey Cai, the Festival Director.

Founded by Yibin Cai in 2011, DCCFF is run by a team of young film enthusiasts and professionals from China and the U.S., including students studying at top film schools. The Festival works to find and encourage talented Chinese-speaking filmmakers, films in Chinese, and films about Chinese-speaking cultures.

This year’s films in the Official Selection, Competition category, include director Lhapal Gyal’s Wangrak’s Rain Boots, Dead Pigs by Cathy Yan, An Impossibly Small Object by David Verbeek, and Interval by Lio Xiaodong.

In the Documentary Feature category, Stammering Ballard by director Zhang Nan, among other documentaries, will also be screened. Several other narrative shorts and experimental films will also be shown at the festival.

In 2016, more than 60 films selected from more than 700 submissions in six categories were screened.

The festival is held at three venues: Landmark’s E Street Cinema: 555 11th St NW, Washington, DC 20004; Mackey’s Public House: 1306 G St NW, Washington, DC 20005, and Asia Nine: 915 E St NW.

The festival tickets can be brought here.
