Just one performance away from winning “America’s Got Talent,” electric violinist Brian King Joseph has given credit to Washington, D.C. for starting his musical journey.
The self-taught musician began his career at the Chinatown Metro station, playing for Washington Capitals fans after games.
“I love D.C. It has shaped me to come out here,” said Joseph, who is also nicknamed the “king of violin”.

Joseph, who grew up in D.C. area, living between Northeast D.C., Silver Spring and Bethesda, attributed much of his success to the support he got from the people of D.C.
“The community of D.C. accepted, and honestly, fed me over those years. Literally putting food in my mouth, putting money in my case,” said the young musician. “D.C. always has the most special place in my heart. I owe D.C. everything.”
Joseph’s first performance was at the Atlas Performing Arts Center on H Street. He has also played for Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor.
If he wins the talent show’s $1 million prize, Joseph plans to start a charity. He also wants to mentor and support kids who can’t afford music school or lessons. “These kids shouldn’t be forgotten,” Joseph said.
