Amtrak is adding private rooms to some of its overnight Northeast Regional trains from Washington, DC to Boston and New York next month.
There will be roomettes, bedrooms or accessible bedrooms offered as three different types of accommodations, with tickets becoming available on April 5.
A full route — a nearly 10-hour ride from DC to Boston — costs $288 per traveler with a roomette including two seats that convert into beds. There are also towels, linens, and bedding in private rooms. Dedicated attendants will provide turndown service, assist with meals, help with luggage for every private room.

Bedrooms are twice the size of roomettes and have a private shower, while roomettes don’t. Riders staying in roomettes will need to use shared showers and restroom facilities.
The schedule for the three types of trains is as follows:
- Train 66 travels daily and departs Washington Union Station at 10 pm, arriving at New York Penn Station at 1:55 am and Boston South Station at 7:58 am.
- Train 67 travels Sundays to Thursdays and departs Boston South Station at 9:30 pm, arriving at New York Penn Station at 2:30 am and Washington Union Station at 7 am.
- Train 65 operates with slightly different arrival times on Fridays and Saturdays.
“We offer a one-of-a-kind way to reach your destination that is unique to Amtrak,” the company’s Executive Vice President Roger Harris said in a release. “In addition to all the safety precautions we are taking to make rail travel a safe experience, a private room will enhance the trip and give customers the added benefit of more comfort, space and privacy.”
