Conveniently located on the Georgetown waterfront of the Potomac River, the Washington Harbour Ice Rink serves DMV residents as a popular ice-skating space. It was recently transformed from its interchangeable use as a fountain, and is now open every day, including holidays, throughout the skating season. Private rental is available before and after public skating, with skate hosts assisting with your event.

The Wharf Ice Rink, located on Transit Pier at The Wharf, operates from Thanksgiving through February every year. It opened its doors to the public in 2017, when DC’s vibrant waterfront neighborhood, The Wharf, was first established. The facility takes pride in being DC’s only over-water ice skating rink and features stunning views of the city. Seniors, first responders, healthcare workers, and active members of the military can get discounts.

Another top-rated rink in Washington, DC, Canal Park Ice Skating, offers youth group lessons, youth hockey lessons, adult lessons, and private lessons. Making a reservation is required ahead of skating at the rink. Skaters must arrive within 10 minutes of their scheduled reservation time. Canal Park Ice Skating asks its customers to adhere to social distancing and mask wearing guidelines during the coronavirus pandemic. 

Fort Dupont Ice Arena

Fort Dupont Ice Arena has been serving the region’s residents as the only public indoor ice arena located in Washington, DC since 1996. The Ward 7 arena was previously operated by the National Park Service (NPS) and is currently managed by the nonprofit Friends of Fort Dupont Ice Arena. The facility offers lessons including a Kids On Ice program that is designed for children aged from 5-18 to practice hockey, figure skating, synchronized skating and speed skating.

The Sculpture Garden Ice Rink

Group lessons and private lessons are provided for all levels and ages, as well as group packages for schools or special events. A team of instructors from the Washington Elite Skating School host the classes as part of the Learn to Skate USA Basic Skills Program. Discounted prices apply to skaters aged 60 and over, kids 12 years-old and younger, military service members, and students with a valid school ID. Skaters can also treat themselves to sandwiches and desserts at the Pavilion Café.
