Bon Iver & TU Dance’s Come Through, an evening-length performance featuring new music from indie rock darling Justin Vernon and new choreography from TU Dance, will be held at the Concert Hall of the Kennedy Center on March 25.
The cross-genre show is a collaborative performance of two artistic powerhouses. It features new music from two-time Grammy Award-winning indie folk band Bon Iver, and new choreography from TU Dance, “which is a nine-member company founded by Toni Pierce-Sands and Uri Sandsandknown for works that combine the language of modern dance and classical ballet with African-based and urban vernacular movements,” according to the event brief.
The event is part of D.C.’s second annual Direct Current festival, which is a two-week celebration of contemporary culture presented by the Kennedy Center. Direct Current runs from March 24 through April 7.
Come Through is an original work that combines the choreography of TU Dance with the music of Vernon. The band will be performing the score live which combines the concert and a dance performance.
The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra’s Liquid Music Series commissioned the performance which also premiered last April. Last March, Bon Iver and TU Dance collaborated on a dance performance at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Arts.
“As the two art forms connect to each other, they become an exponentially more powerful force,” wrote the Star Tribune as it praised the performance in its review.
