A US Capitol Police (USCP) officer has been taken to a hospital with injuries after his motorcycle and a van collided on Wednesday afternoon.
The driver of the white van involved in the crash didn’t have a valid driver’s license, according to the USCP, which said the individual was arrested for that reason.
The incident took place at the intersection of Washington Avenue and C Street, Southwest, at approximately 3 pm, while two USCP motorcycle officers were traveling south on Washington Avenue.
The van which was traveling north tried to cut across traffic towards the freeway on-ramp and struck one of the officers while he was on his motorcycle.

The officer was transported to the hospital by a helicopter. He was conscious and breathing when he was airlifted.
His condition was stable with non-life threatening injuries early on Thursday morning.
“There is no nexus to any type of domestic terrorism and no threat to the Congressional Community or the Capitol Complex,” the USCP said in a statement.
Temporary road closures were put in place on Washington Avenue between 2nd and D Streets, Southwest and on-ramp to I-395 off of Washington Avenue, Southwest.
The USCP is currently investigating the traffic accident.
