A vehicle slammed into the Emancipation Memorial in Northeast DC’s Lincoln Park early Thursday morning, according to authorities.
The accident reportedly took place around 5:30 am in the 1200 block of East Capitol Street, while the car was headed south on 12th Street, Northeast.
US Park Police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the incident, where the driver and a female passenger in the car were injured.
The two individuals were taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries by the DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Department.

It was also reported that the pedestal of the statue was damaged during the crash. The Emancipation Memorial depicts President Abraham Lincoln and a freed slave.
It is not certain at this time what charges the driver might face.
