D.C. Council has voted for broader vegetarian meal options in public schools for children. The positive vote is likely to make Washington, D.C. the first state in the U.S. requiring schools to keep meat-free lunch alternatives for students.

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser will be officially sworn in as mayor on January 2 at Walter E. Washington Convention Center. Bowser will become the first female mayor to be sworn in for two terms.

Washington, D.C. on December 18 voted in favor of a climate change bill which requires all electricity to be generated from renewable resources by 2030 in the District.

A street in front of the Saudi embassy in Washington, D.C. might soon be named after Washington Post contributor Jamal Khashoggi, who was reportedly killed inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, Turkey.

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser has named Shawn Townsend as the "Night Mayor" of the District. Townsend’s official title will be the “Director of The Mayor's Office of Nightlife and Culture.”
