In order to be chosen as the venue for Amazon’s second headquarters, D.C. government offered the retail company an incentive package of $1 billion over 16 years in addition to other benefits like single-day permits.
A day after D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser was reelected, becoming the first D.C. Mayor to be re-elected in 16 years, the Mayor said that she plans to legalize sales of recreational marijuana in her second term.
The incumbent Muriel E. Bowser (D) has become the first D.C. Mayor to be re-elected in 16 years. The election was no contest for Bowser, who won by an extreme margin.
A committee on Thursday cleared a bill on a vote of 3-0 that will bring down the voting age of D.C. residents to 16 years from 18 years. Full D.C. Council will now decide on the bill in a final vote.
Support for granting Statehood to D.C. has again gained momentum as 175 House representatives and 29 representatives in the Senate are now in favour of Statehood to D.C.
The D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, Council Chairman Phil Mendelson and Attorney General Karl A. Racine are likely to get a pay hike of $20,000 each if the new bill introduced in the city council is passed.
