Alleypalooza 8, a biannual campaign to repair and reconstruct 64 selected alleys, eight in each of the D.C. eight wards, will be kicked off on November 2 by D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser and District Department of Transportation (DDOT) Director Jeff Marootian.
The campaign, which is part of Mayor’s program to invest and improve D.C. infrastructure, runs for 12 weeks.
Under AlleyPalooza, alleys across eight wards of the district are repaired and renovated. In each campaign, DDOT does renovation work in eight D.C. wards over a period of 12 weeks.
AlleyPalooza was launched in 2015 by DC Mayor Muriel Bowser. Since 2015, DDOT has renovated over 400 alleys. DC Mayor also launched PaveDC plan in April 2018 to repair all alleys in D.C. by 2021 and all roadways, which are in poor condition, by 2024.
There are over 350 miles of alleys across eight wards of the city. The alleys are repaired following requests made by residents through the 311 system. The reconstruction and repair work decisions are taken after inspections depending on the condition of alleys, budget and construction schedule, and time required to complete the repairs.
Residents can inform DDOT about alleys that require renovation or repair by calling Mayor’s Call Center at 311 or via On-line Service Request Center at 311.dc.gov. District’s DC311 smart phone application can also be used for communication.
