Five Washington, D.C. companies have made it to the second edition of Forbes’ annual list of America’s Best Employers for Diversity.
World Bank Group ranked 32nd in the Forbes’ list, while Danaher Corporation, a globally diversified conglomerate, is ranked 113rd on the list. At No. 128 was AARP, which operates in the field of healthcare, which was followed by Siemens ranking 129th. Smithsonian Institution also made it to the list at No. 363.
A Colorado-based metal packaging company, Ball, grabbed the first spot, making it to the top of the Forbes‘ list of the best employers for diversity in 2019. Forbes said the company has nine employee resource groups representing diverse minority populations, and also has other initiatives promoting diversity and inclusion. The company’s “commitment to diversity and inclusion starts at the very top,” according to Forbes.
Forbes partnered with market research company Statista to produce the second annual ranking of America’s best employers for diversity. “The list was compiled by surveying 50,000 Americans working for businesses with at least 1,000 employees, and it features some businesses whose appearance on the list, in light of recent events, may come as a surprise,” notes the introduction of the rankings.
“Starbucks and IBM, for example, both appear, their claims to the No. 44 and No. 217 spots a reflection of the thoughts of their respective workforces.”
In the final list, 500 employers were ranked and received most recommendations, also boasting about “most diverse boards and executive ranks and the most proactive diversity and inclusion initiatives.”
