D.C.’s first official government radio station, D.C. Radio 96.3 HD4, is celebrating its first anniversary.
Since last year, the station has been serving residents of all eight Wards. It is managed and broadcast from the headquarters of the D.C. Office of Cable Television, Film, Music, and Entertainment.
According to Angie M. Gates, Director D.C. Office of Cable Television, Film, Music, and Entertainment, the station “enhances the quality-of-life for District residents by broadcasting vital information, sharing programming on emergency and non-emergency services and alerts, and providing community and government affairs programming.”
D.C. Radio also acts as a media literacy training platform for residents and students. The station airs audio-versions of television shows, which are broadcast on DCN, DKN, and DCC Television Networks.
D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser congratulated the station for successfully completing one year. “A year ago, we launched the first, official government radio station in our nation’s capital. Today, it’s my pleasure to congratulate D.C. Radio 96.3 HD4 on its first anniversary!” the Mayor Tweeted on Wednesday.
In an official statement, the mayor added that the station serves as the first and official station of her government and the nation’s capital. “The residents are able to tune into the informative, entertaining and insightful content D.C. Radio produces,” she said.
