A DC high school student died from his injuries after being shot near his Northeast DC home on Friday, December 3.
The teenager, identified as Larelle Washington, was attending KIPP DC College Preparatory, which announced the senior’s tragic passing four days after the shooting.
“We are heartbroken to share that KIPP DC College Preparatory senior Larelle Washington has passed away after a senseless act of gun violence,” said the school in a Facebook post on Tuesday.
The incident took place in the 1700 block of Capitol Avenue, Northeast in the Trinidad neighborhood at around 4 pm.

“Larelle was a remarkable young man that cared deeply about his friends, teachers, and family. Over his four years at KCP, he grew tremendously, forming strong relationships with teachers and students alike. In an easy-going and kind manner, he always took time out of his day to check in on others. He will be deeply missed by the whole KIPP DC community,” the school’s statement added.
Another KIPP DC student, 15-year-old Kemon Payne, died last summer after he was stabbed by one of his classmates. The teen suspect was charged with second-degree murder while armed.
