Metro Honors Washington Spirit Championship Win in New SmarTrip Card

-

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) has released a new SmarTrip card to celebrate the Washington Spirit’s championship win in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL).

Soccer fans may purchase the limited-edition card, which bears a photo of the team members lifting the championship trophy, for $2 at selected stations, including Navy Yard, Waterfront, and Gallery Place stations.

A total of 10,000 commemorative cards have been issued and are available only on a first-come, first-served basis through fare machines.

“We are excited to honor the Spirit, reigning NWSL champs, with this commemorative card. The Spirit’s title run continues the winning tradition in the District of Champions,” said Metro General Manager/CEO Randy Clarke in a statement. “Metro is proud to support the team and fans getting to and from games.”

Spirit midfielder Anna Heilferty, along with Clarke, was present at the Gallery Place station on Tuesday, for a meet-up with fans and the launch of the new card.

“So great to hangout with @wmataGM and meet Spirit fans this afternoon! Be sure to grab your Spirit Metro Card!” Heilferty wrote in a tweet.

Metro released another limited-edition SmarTrip card to honor the Mystics’ 2019 Women’s National Basketball Association Title earlier this year.
