A state-of-the-art new showroom and a working space will be opened by Nike in the Merriweather District, as the apparel company has signed a lease for 12,000 square feet space in a new office building in downtown Columbia.
The wholesale outpost and space will be located 26 miles from downtown D.C. and 22 miles from Baltimore, which is the global headquarters of Under Armour Inc. (NYSE: UAA).
“It will join tenants that owner Howard Hughes Corp. (NYSE: HHC) has been lining up for the project, including MedStar Health and Pearson PLC,” according to a report by the Washington Business Journal. “Elsewhere in the downtown Columbia project are cured and 18th & 21st, a restaurant and speakeasy, and a new music venue and bar/restaurant, The Soundry, from Clyde’s Restaurant Group.”
The acquisition marks the first phase of development which will be spanning over 30 years of development in downtown Columbia. Howard Hughes Corp. is planning a $5 billion investment and 14 million square feet of development for the area.
