Two DC police officers who crashed their cruisers while racing in Northeast last month are now facing reckless driving charges.
The officers, identified as Humias Khan and Jerrita Millington, have each been charged with one count of reckless driving and two counts of aggravated reckless driving.
According to court documents, Khan and Millington were in Ford Taurus police cruisers and racing more than double the speed limit in a 25 mph zone, when the accident took place in the 1500 block of Anacostia Avenue on April 22.
Millington cut off Khan’s vehicle while both moved onto Polk Street Northeast, which led to the crash, police say.
The pair appeared before the court on Monday, and are due in court in June.
“The streets, roadways, and avenues of the District connect us to our families and friends, get us to and from work, and bring our community closer together – that’s why it’s imperative for my office to enforce our traffic safety laws. When people threaten public safety and the residents of the District by driving recklessly on our roadways, we hold them accountable,” DC Attorney General Karl Racine said about the incident.
