The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) is calling for new applications as officers, cadets, and civilian employees with a starting salary of $60,199.
MPD is also offering up to $6,000 in rental housing assistance to offset the costs associated with starting a new career to encourage officers to reside in the District.
Each police recruit is eligible to sign up for the rental housing benefit within three months of their employment with the Department.

All new hires are also required to commit to staying with DC police for two years after the completion of their six-month training program at the Metropolitan Police Academy.
If a recruit participates in the housing allowance incentive program, they must commit to staying with MPD for another six months after they graduate from the academy — two and a half years in total.
To apply for the program, candidates must complete an application and provide a signed lease agreement for a residence in the District of Columbia.
