The 2018 D.C. Queer Theater Festival opened on Friday and Saturday at the D.C. Arts Center, 2438 18th Street NW.
The festival celebrates underrepresented voices and artists coming from diverse backgrounds in the D.C. area. The Queer Theater Festival will feature plays by many award-winning, D.C.-based writers and performers.
The plays depict the joys and challenges faced by the LGBTQ community of D.C. Comedies and themes of love and loss are also explored in their plays. More than 30 submissions of plays were received with themes relating to the LGBTQ communities, out of which seven 10-minute plays were selected to be performed at the festival.
The D.C. Queer Theater Festival was founded in 2012. According to the event’s website, “The D.C. Queer Theater Festival combines quality theater with activism and charity… Our mission is to unleash and celebrate the underrepresented voices and diversity of our artists, audiences, and community.”
Tickets for the D.C. Queer Theater Festival are priced at $20.
