D.C. restaurants dominated the nominations for the 2019 RAMMY Awards which celebrate the region’s best venues. Out of 90 contestants in 18 categories, 70 D.C. restaurants were picked as finalists, an important achievement since the District’s population is eight times smaller than that of the D.C. metro area.
Every year, the Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington (RAMW) chooses the best of chefs, bakers, mixologists and food industry professionals from the city for the RAMMY Awards.
According to a statement from RAMW, the selection process for finalists and winners involve two reputable groups – the voting public and an anonymous panel of volunteer judges comprising food and dining journalists, educators and foodservice industry professionals.
The press statement elaborated that the voting public will select winners in four categories: Favorite Gathering Place of the Year, Upscale Brunch of the Year, Casual Brunch of the Year, and Favorite Fast Bites of the Year.
The RAMMY Awards Gala that celebrates Metropolitan Washington’s best restaurants, is presented by the RAMW. The awards honor the “exceptional ability and accomplishments of the hard-working individuals and organizations of the region’s restaurants and foodservice community.” The BIZBASH Magazine has named it as the No. 1 food and restaurant event since 2009.
The finalists were declared on Monday night at The Hamilton. The winners will be announced at the 37th Annual RAMMY Awards Gala on June 30 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.
