Carr Properties’ 11-story future office project Signal House in the Union Market neighborhood of Northeast Washington, D.C. has received the Gensler Design Excellence Award (GDEA) in the Workplace: Unbuilt category.
Signal House was chosen out of 107 projects from the global portfolio of the firm at the end of 2018.
Carr Properties’ CEO Oliver Carr said they’re excited to partner with Gensler to bring a new wave of office development to the historic Union Market neighborhood. “Signal House will be a great addition of a high quality, creative office project to the area’s flourishing retail and residential developments,” said Carr.
About the Gensler award, Jeff Barber, Global Design Experience Leader and Principal at Gensler, said that they’re proud to work with Carr Properties on a pioneering office development in the Union Market neighborhood. “While designed as a speculative office building, Signal House offers the presence and generosity of a build-to-suit and will serve as a noteworthy home for the creative community and like-minded companies,” said Barber.
GDEA, which is an internal award for recognizing and celebrating the company’s exceptional work during the previous year, is hosted by Gensler every year. Hundreds of projects are reviewed for the award and only a small selection makes it to the GDEAs program.
As a privately held real estate investment trust, Carr properties owns, acquires and develops high-quality office properties in Washington, D.C. Boston, and Massachusetts.
