Washington, D.C. has come out as the worst city overall in terms of healthy eating with only 3.11 healthy restaurants per 100,000 people in its city limits, according to a report by Vitagene.
Indianapolis follows D.C. as the second worst with 4.47 healthy eating restaurants per 100,000 people, while Houston and Jacksonville both have 5.32.
Atlanta turned out to be the best city for healthy eating in the U.S. as it has 151.97 healthy restaurants per 100,000 individuals. Hartford and Las Vegas are in second and third place with 105.35 and 76.67 healthy restaurants per 100,000 people respectively.
To determine the healthiest cities in the U.S. for dining out, Vitagene used information on Yelp about restaurants in each major city. These places included smoothie bars, along with vegan, raw food and sushi restaurants.
Six of the top 10 cities for healthy eating, including Los Angeles and San Francisco, are located in the West.
“Overall, Atlanta is the best city in the country for healthy eating with the most healthy eating restaurants per 100,000 people. It’s also a great place to be if you like juice and smoothie bars, as well as sushi!,” the report states.
“Eating well is so important, and knowing how your body reacts to different nutrients and food types is crucial to your overall health and well being,” according to the Vitagene.
