A total of nine people were arrested Saturday night outside the Metropolitan Police Department’s (MPD) Fourth District station during protests in response to the officer-involved fatal moped accident that claimed the life of 20-year-old Karon Hylton-Brown.
Charles Brown, father of Hylton-Brown, along with some family members and friends, were reportedly among those arrested. Brown’s bond hearing is likely to take place on Monday.
The crash victim’s sister told NBC Washington that his cousins were also arrested.
Hylton-Brown died on October 23 after an attempted traffic stop while he was riding a Revel moped because he was not wearing a helmet, according to police.
A body-worn camera video was released last week following two nights of demonstrations. The video shows a police cruiser chasing the 20-year-old man at an increasing speed and a collision with another vehicle occurring as he comes out of an alley in the Brightwood Park neighborhood, Northwest DC.
Hylton-Brown succumbed to his injuries after receiving treatment at a hospital for three days. He reportedly died the day his daughter turned three months old.
Protesters have been gathering outside the Fourth District police station every day since his death.
Four MPD officers have been placed on non-contact leave last Thursday in relation to their involvement in the incident.
