Five-Year-Old Shot in Hand During Fourth of July Celebration

A five-year-old boy was shot in DC’s Columbia Heights while he was playing in the backyard of his home during a Fourth of July party Sunday night.

The child was reportedly shot in his left hand at approximately 10 pm in the 3500 block of 11th Street, Northwest.

He was transported to a nearby hospital after his hand began to swell badly, the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) said.

MPD responded to a number of other shootings in the District on the same night, including ones in the 3200 block of D Street Southeast; the unit block of Forrester Street Southwest; the 2700 block of Bruce Place Southeast, the 4700 block of Southern Avenue Southeast, and the 1600 block of 27th Street Southeast.
