Four people, including two children, were hit by a car while they were walking on a sidewalk in the District’s Mt. Pleasant neighborhood on Tuesday.

The incident took place on 18th Street and Newton Street in Northwest around 5 pm. Prior to striking the four pedestrians, a driver in a gray Nissan Altima was reportedly driving erratically down the street.

The car then drove off after bumping into a fire hydrant, according to police, who are looking for the driver.

DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) announced that the two kids and two adults were rushed to area hospitals with potentially critical injuries.
