DC Woman Stabbed to Death in Logan Circle

-

A 35-year-old woman identified as Wendy Martinez was stabbed to death in Logan Circle late Tuesday evening, according to authorities.

The woman was out for a jog before 8 p.m. at 11th and O streets, Northwest, when she was attacked, according to DC police. She called for help and collapsed in a nearby carry-out restaurant.

Authorities first said the hunt was on for three suspects, but later clarified one male suspect in a mustard-colored shirt, pants, white socks, and sandals, was on the run. According to the police, the suspect ran southbound on the 1400 block of 11th Street, NW. The knife used by the attacker has been recovered near the scene.

The motive behind the crime has not been determined yet, investigators said, but they believe that that the attack was likely random and that Martinez did not know the assailant.

Martinez’s family told FOX 5 that she was recently engaged, adding that she was “fearfully and wonderfully made. She was the light of our lives. We are deeply saddened by this senseless tragedy.”

“The entire FiscalNote family is shocked and deeply saddened to learn that Wendy Martinez, our Chief of Staff, was killed last night. Wendy was an invaluable member of our team and a vibrant member of the community. Our thoughts and prayers are with Wendy’s family and friends,” her employer Fiscal Note said in a statement.
