D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser is set to kick off the New Year with her annual fitness activity, #FITDC Fresh Start 5K, on the first day of 2020.
The sixth edition of the now-traditional race will be held in Anacostia Park, aiming to promote healthy living for all District residents.
“The signature event is part of the ‘Find Your Fit’ campaign, a citywide wellness initiative to help D.C. return to the number one spot as the ‘Fittest City in America,’ as ranked annually by the American College of Sports Medicine,” Bowser’s Office said in a statement earlier this month.
People of all ages are invited to join Bowser at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 1, 2020. Registrations start at 9:00 a.m.

The mayor’s office has joined forces with AETNA, the D.C. Government Employee Health Insurance, Vida Fitness, Pacers Running and some other D.C.-based running groups for the event.
“Each year, our #FitDC Fresh Start 5K brings together Washingtonians of all ages to celebrate the New Year in style – having fun while making healthy choices,” Bowser in her statement. “Whether you’re running, walking, or cheering friends and family on, everyone can help put our city on the right path to becoming healthier and happier in 2020.”
On New Year’s Day 2019, more than 2,000 individuals took part in the race in the Capitol Riverfront neighborhood, according to the Mayor’s Office.
