Members of two civil rights groups held a demonstration outside the DC home of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, painting a giant mural, over his support for President Donald Trump’s Supreme Court pick.
“Hey Mitch. We Call BS. Let The People Decide,” said the message, in reference to the politician’s support for Amy Coney Barrett, who has been nominated by Trump to fill the Supreme Court seat that became vacant after the passing of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on September 18.
Saturday’s protest was organized by March For Our Lives, a movement aiming to end gun violence, and Demand Justice, which is “dedicated to fighting Donald Trump’s takeover of our courts.”
March For Our Lives co-founder David Hogg shared pictures of the mural on Twitter, along with a selfie, asking McConnell to respect Ginsburg’s wish.
The late judge told her granddaughter her wish was that she would not be replaced “until a new president was installed,” according to an NPR report.
shout out to @WeDemandJustice for making this possible!

March For Our Lives was founded in 2018 by a group of survivors of gun violence. It was named after a series of demonstrations following the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, that claimed 17 lives.
McConnell has been among the top Senate Republicans who praised Trump’s decision to nominate Barrett. He called Barrett “exceedingly well-qualified” and an “exceptionally impressive jurist.” He also expressed support for holding a Senate vote on the nomination ahead of the presidential election.
