Metro to Close Four Orange Line Stations for Platform Reconstruction This Summer

-

Metro is planning to shut down three Orange Line stations in Virginia during this summer as part of its 2020 Platform Improvement Project.

The Vienna, Dunn Loring and East Falls Church stations are scheduled to remain closed from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, while West Falls Church station will be open and serve as the western terminus of the Orange Line.

Even though the East Falls Church Station will be closed to customers, Orange and Silver Line trains will still be passing through the station over a single track through the work area.

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) will renovate platforms and conduct other major improvements at these stations.

The agency will announce specific travel alternatives and more service information in early March.

The project will cause a lack of parking space for many Northern Virginia Metro riders, because of the preparations of workers that will kick off in mid-March.

Metro’s Platform Improvement Project covers 20 stations that have been worsening recently, prompting potential danger in the transit system.

Other stations that are scheduled for platform reconstruction are Addison Road, Arlington Cemetery, Cheverly, College Park-U of Md, Greenbelt, Landover, New Carrollton, Prince George’s Plaza, Reagan National Airport and West Hyattsville.
