Northeast DC House Fire Leaves Senior, His Dog Dead

-

A elderly man and his dog died in a heavy house fire in Northeast DC early in the morning on Wednesday.

The DC Fire & Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Department received reports about the fire at a home in the 1500 block of Monroe Street at around 4 am.

Firefighters found the man on the second floor of the two-story building, according to DC Fire and EMS. The victim’s name has not been released yet. He has only been identified as an adult male in his 70s. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His dog also died in the fire.

“The thoughts and prayers of our Department are with his family and friends,” the Department said in a statement.

Both floors were reportedly affected by the blaze, which did not spread to neighboring houses thanks to efforts of DC Fire and EMS members.

Officials are investigating the fire to determine its cause.
