The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) is seeking the public’s assistance to identify and locate an alleged shoplifter involved in the stabbing of a special police officer at a Safeway store in Northeast DC.
The incident took place shortly after 11 am on Saturday, March 13, at the 300 block of 40th Street, Northeast.
The officer, who works for Safeway, was reportedly attempting to stop an individual from stealing several cans of beer at the store when he was stabbed by the shoplifter. The suspect fled the scene and the officer was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
MPD seeks the public's assistance in identifying a suspect in reference to an Assault on a Police Officer offense that occurred on 3/13/21 in the 300 block of 40th St NE.

MPD released two photos of the suspect taken from a surveillance camera. He is accused of assaulting a police officer.
Anyone who can identify the person or can provide information to help the police locate them is asked to call MPD at (202) 727-9099 or submit their tip by texting to 50411.
DC police are currently offering a reward of up to $1,000 for anyone who helps the arrest of a suspect or suspects responsible for a crime committed in the District by sharing information with the Department.
