Hill Center at the Old Navy Hospital is hosting a seminar to offer methods of improving public speaking and leadership skills which you can attend virtually and for free on Wednesday, December 16.
“If you live or work on Capitol Hill and want to improve your public speaking and leadership skills, this friendly and supportive group is for you! Whether you work in a corporate environment or from home, whether you are a student or retiree, Toastmasters is an enjoyable way of learning, practicing, and perfecting communication and leadership skills,” says the event brief.
Potential participants will be contacted by the organizers about the class after they register for a meeting through Eventbrite.
The organizers will continue holding the event every Wednesday from 7 pm – 8 pm EST through the end of next year. It will only take place online via Zoom for the time being due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The event has been organized by Toastmasters International, which is “a nonprofit educational organization that teaches public speaking and leadership skills through a worldwide network of clubs,” according to its website.
The nonprofit promises a friendly and supportive environment, and constructive evaluations, along with a self-paced program, paving the way for the attendees to build confidence through multiple assignments. An evaluator points out strengths of attendees and suggest improvements after each speech they give or assignment they complete, according to the event brief.
Toastmasters International says it has more than 250,000 members in more than 12,500 clubs in 106 countries. The clubs meet weekly or biweekly for one to two hours.
