Metro Police Warns of Road Closures for Christmas Tree Lighting

Ahead of the White House’s 97th annual National Christmas Tree Lighting at the Ellipse scheduled for December 5, the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) announced that there would be some street closures.

Due to the event, motorists are asked to be aware of the closures so that they don’t experience problems on Thursday.

According to the MPD’s statement, the following streets will be posted as Emergency No Parking from around 9:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.:

• 17th Street between Pennsylvania Avenue to Constitution Avenue, NW
• Constitution Avenue between 18th Street and 14th Street, NW
• 15th Street between H Street and Constitution Avenue, NW

Between 1:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., the streets that will be closed to vehicular traffic are as follows:

• 17^th Street between Pennsylvania Avenue and Independence Avenue, SW
• C Street between 17^th Street and 18^th Street, NW
• D Street between 17^th Street and 18^th Street, NW
• E Street between 17^th Street and 18^th Street, NW
• F Street between 17^th Street and 18^th Street, NW
• G Street between 17^th Street and 18^th Street, NW
• New York Avenue between 17^th Street and 18^th Streets, NW

• Constitution Avenue between 18^th Street and 14^th Street, NW
• 15^th Street between H Street and Madison Drive, NW

(Traffic will be allowed to flow south on 15th Street from Madison Drive)

• Pennsylvania Avenue between 14^th Street and 15^th Street, NW
• E Street between 14^th Street and 15^th Street, NW
• F Street between 14^th Street and 15^th Street, NW

• G Street between 14^th Street and 15^th Street, NW
• New York Avenue between 14^th Street and 15^th Street, NW
