A Pulitzer Prize-winning romantic comedy about an interfaith romance, Talley’s Folly written by Lanford Wilson and directed by Aaron Posner, is showing at the GALA Hispanic Theater on 3333 14th St NW, Washington, D.C. from December 7 through December 30.
The funny and touching theatrical performance featuring John Taylor Phillips and Erin Weaver is a poignant homage to an unusual love affair between a Jewish accountant and a 31-year-old maid from a Protestant family.
“On a moonlit night in 1944 Missouri, middle-aged Jewish accountant Matt Friedman has only one chance to win the heart of Sally Talley, a 31-year-old ‘old maid’ from a bigoted Protestant family,” notes the show brief. “After a lifetime of believing they will never truly belong in the world around them, Matt and Sally reawaken one another to love, ultimately finding that they do belong – together.”
The two-character play was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 1980 for drama. The show is produced by Theater J at the GALA Hispanic Theater.
The New York Times called Talley’s Folly “a play to savor and cheer” and Lanford Wilson as “one of our most gifted playwrights.”
Tickets can be purchased at the GALA Hispanic Theater an hour ahead of the performance.
