As part of its continued expansion in the D.C. region, retail giant Target has signed a 46K SF lease at CityLine to open a new small-format store in a recently vacated building in Tenleytown, 4500 Wisconsin Ave. NW, according to the commercial real estate company CBRE.
“Target’s opening in Tenleytown will be an incredible asset for all of Northwest Washington, D.C. and its surrounding areas. The flagship site offers notable character and convenient access for Metro riders with an entrance directly in the building, as well as dedicated parking under the store, providing unparalleled ease of entry,” CBRE Senior Vice President Michael Zacharia, who brokered the lease for Target, said in a press release.
In recent years, the company has rapidly expanded into the D.C. market by opening new stores in College Park, Bethesda, Rosslyn and Falls Church, aside from signing leases for more stores in Ballston, Ivy City and National Harbor. The retailer also plans to open stores at two new locations in Northwest D.C.’s Cleveland Park and Shepherd Park neighborhoods on April 7.
The store will be constructed on a space situated at the corner of Wisconsin Avenue and River road on top of Tenleytown Metro station. The 46,000 square feet store is expected to be opened in 2020.
The place earlier housed the first Sears store in the city in the 1940s. It was occupied by Best Buy until its closure on in November.
