Boxing Star Tiara Brown Named DC Police Officer of the Year

-

Metropolitan Police Department of Washington, D.C. has named Tiara Brown, an undefeated boxing star and a full-time police officer, as the 2019 Officer of the Year on March 8.

Steve Harvey talk show recently hailed Brown, a four-year veteran on the force, as a “real life super-hero”, praising her career as an officer and a successful boxer.

Brown moved to D.C. from Florida six years ago to work as a youth boxing counselor. Four years ago, she also joined the police department.

“I still work as a youth boxing counselor, as well, so between my training for fights, working on the force and as a counselor, I stay very busy,” she said, adding that she was excited to be selected for this award.

“But truthfully, I just do my job every day to the fullest of my abilities and will continue with that mindset. It’s the same thing in boxing, work hard every day,” she stated.

Lou DiBella, President of DiBella Entertainment, said that she was proud of Tiara, calling her “a terrific fighter and a future world champion.”

“More importantly,” she added, “Tiara is a true role model, not only keeping the streets of Washington, D.C. safe but also working as a mentor to inner-city youth. She is very deserving of this award and it is an honor to promote her.”

Brown has been a gold medalist thrice at the U.S.A. Boxing National Championships and also won a gold medal at the 2012 Women’s World Championships in China as an amateur. She’s also participated in the 2015 Olympic Trials.

In September 2016, she turned professional. On December 8, 2018, she also won a fight against former world champion Dahiana Santana at Bowie State University in Bowie, MD.

The department will be holding the 19th Annual Metropolitan Police Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, March 19, at THEARC Theater in Washington, D.C.
