The annual Union Market Drive-In is returning on Friday, May 7, with a monthly series for its ninth edition.
“Let’s roll down the windows, feel that summer breeze and turn up the radio because the 9th Annual Drive-In at Union Market is back,” says the event brief.
The series of six movies will launch on the first Friday of every month through October 1. There won’t be any dramas this year; comedy, action and cult classics will be shown, instead.
In addition, many local and international delights will be available at the site, including Egyptian dishes by Fava Pot, night market noodles from Som Tam, ice cream from The Creamery, burgers from Lucky Buns and more.
Alcohol is allowed on Neal Place if purchased from Market vendors, but it cannot be consumed in the parking lot.
The drive-in movie theater became highly popular among DC residents last summer due to pandemic-related shutdowns.
Tickets for each movie are $20 per car. (No ticket is required to watch on Neal Place.) A total of 125 parking spaces will be available this year.
All movies will be screened with open captioning, and audio will be transmitted through FM radio.
“For those on foot, pack your chairs and blankets and set up shop in front of Union Market for great views and picnic-style entertainment,” organizers say.
