Verizon Wireless to Roll Out 5G Network in DC This Year

-

Telecommunications company Verizon Wireless has announced the planned roll-out of 5G network in Washington, D.C. this year following the testing process in Chicago and Minneapolis.

The District will be one of the 20 markets where 5G services will be provided by the company. This year, other cities such as Atlanta, Boston, Charlotte, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Dallas, Des Moines, Denver, Memphis, Phoenix, Providence, San Diego, and Salt Lake City are also planned to receive Verizon Wireless’ 5G services.

However, the company has not specified any dates as to when the 5G services will be operational in D.C.

You need a 5G-enabled phone to access Verizon’s 5G network. The company is currently selling one of the few 5G-enabled phones. Customers can order Samsung Galaxy S10 5G which is exclusively available through Verizon and can be pre-ordered online. New Verizon Wireless customers are offered the advantage of buying the phone at less than retail price.

“The Galaxy S10 5G on Verizon’s 5G Ultra Wideband network will give our customers access to incredible speeds and the latest and greatest streaming, augmented-reality, gaming, and consumer and business applications that bring us into a future powered by 5G,” Ronan Dunne, executive vice president and president of Verizon’s consumer group, said in a press release on April 25.

“With the rollout of 5G in more than 30 markets by the end of 2019 and the upcoming launch of Samsung’s first 5G Galaxy smartphone, we are pulling further ahead of the competition in 5G,” added Dunne.

Customers can also purchase the phone at a full price of about $54 per month for two years.

YH Eom, the president and CEO of Samsung Electronics America, said that 5G speeds will unlock a new world of possibilities for consumers and businesses. “They’ll be able to stream, download, browse, and share like they never have before,” he said.

AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile are some other companies also making plans to offer their own 5G network services this year, aside from Galaxy S10 5G phones.
