“So what pushes José Andrés’s avant-garde place to number one for the first time in its 15 years? The 14-seat counter-within-a-kitchen received a warm make-over whose vibe harks back to its nascent days inside Café Atlántico. New head chef Jorge Hernandez comes from that time, too, and leads the 28-odd-dish progression with finesse. Each little bite is masterful—the pinnacle of creativity and deliciousness,” Washingtonian editors noted, while adding that the restaurant is “very expensive”.
The Dabney located at 122 Blagden Aly NW, Washington, D.C. 2001 got the second place on the list. The Inn at Little Washington, located at 309 Middle St Washington, VA 22747, ranked third on the list.
Sushi Nakazawa at 1100 Pennsylvania Ave NW, which serves Japanese and sushi cuisines, ranked number four, while Tail Up Goat restaurant at 1827 Adams Mill Rd NW ranked number five.
Other restaurants that made the top 10 are Pineapple and Pearls, Elle, Komi, Kinship, and Little Serow, respectively taking the sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth and 10th spots.
The ranking was compiled jointly by executive food editor and critic Ann Limpert, food editor Anna Spiegel, Jessica Sidman, and Cynthia Hacinli.
