“Toys for Tots” is a program aiming to deliver toys to children whose parents cannot afford to buy them Christmas gifts. The program managed by the United States Marine Corps Reserve was started in 1947 by reservist Major Bill Hendricks.
The Virginia-based Marine Toys for Tots Foundation works to provide funding for the program.
“The primary goal of Marine Toys for Tots is, through the gift of a new toy, help bring the joy of Christmas and send a message of hope to America’s less fortunate children,” the foundation’s website explains.
As part of the program, new unwrapped toys are collected and distributed to less fortunate children at Christmas.
If you are interested in being part of the Christmas joy by donating a toy to a family, you can use one of the “Toy Drop Site Locations” managed by the Local Marine Toys for Tots Campaign. To find the nearest spot in your area, you can click here.
Among the corporate sponsors of Toys for Tots are Kmart, Hallmark, Sears, the Walt Disney Company, Target, the UPS Store, Hasbro, Hess, Delta Air Lines, Duracell, Dunkin’ Donuts, Good Year, T-Mobile and many others.
