High schools in the District will be able to resume sports activities that require less contact, beginning March 15, according to Mayor Muriel Bowser.
Other high school sports are expected to restart in a phased plan. DC Health and the DC Student Athletic Association will release the details of the plan later.
The three phases of the plan will be “re-engagement,” “skill development,” and “practices.”
During a press conference on Thursday, Bowser said that her administration hopes that the plan moves forward on March 15, but it will not work if the city sees significant changes in its metrics.
“But it has been made very clear to us from schools and parents that they want some planning time, and we’re being as helpful as we can with that,” she added.

In December 2020, Mayor Bowser suspended high school sports in the District, citing the possible danger of COVID-19 for athletes.
DC’s emergency health order is slated to end on March 17.
