Washington Metro riders who use iPhone will now have access to real-time information on the arrivals of trains and buses through the Apple Maps app on their phone.
The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) announced the news on November 26.
“Customers using Apple Maps will now see detailed transit schedules, live departure and arrival times, the current location of a Metro train or bus, and system connections to help plan their journey,” WMATA said in a statement.

Calling the development a “game-changer,” Metro General Manager Paul Wiedefeld said: “We want to make choosing Metro as simple and convenient as possible, and a key element of success will be providing real-time transit information as broadly as possible.”
Wiedefeld added that the app will improve trip planning by giving more accurate and detailed information to Metro riders.
The information available on the app includes schedules of trains and buses, their current locations, times of departures and arrivals and transfer points.
A new data feed offered by WMATA will also allow third-party software developers to integrate live train and bus data “in new and innovative ways.”
