DC to Get Second Sportsbook After The One in Capital One Arena Box Office

-

The District is likely to soon become home to another sports betting location, after the first one opened inside the Capital One Arena Box Office in July.

The new sportsbook named “Handle 19” will open on the 300 block of Pennsylvania Avenue in Southeast DC.

Developers applied for an Alcoholic Beverage Regulation Administration (ABRA) license. The business has been described as “a restaurant offering traditional American food” with a seating capacity of 60 inside and a total occupancy load of 199, in the ABRA meeting filing.

The applicants also asked for the inclusion of Sports Wagering in their operations. There will be eight betting kiosks.

A roll call hearing for the license is expected to be held later this month.

The sportsbook restaurant will be working Sunday through Thursday, 11 am to 1 am, Friday and Saturday, 11 am to 2:30 am.

In February 2019, the DC Council gave an approval to the bill that legalizes sports betting in a final vote. The city became the first place in the region to allow betting on professional sports teams.

The first legal sportsbook in the District opened in early August. It is operated by William Hill US, a London-based sportsbook operator that has over 100 locations in America. It features seven ticket windows and 10 kiosks which take cash bets from 11 am to 11 pm every day of the week.
